Abstract
Introduction. Regenerative medicine has become established as an innovative therapeutic tool aimed at promoting tissue repair and regeneration through the use of autologous resources. Among these, platelet-rich plasma, platelet-rich fibrin, and other autologous biomaterials and hemocomponents have gained increasing relevance in multiple medical specialties due to their clinical applicability and therapeutic potential. Objectives. To analyze the role of the biochemist in regenerative medicine, considering current regulations, preparation conditions, and the clinical utility of different autologous products. Materials and methods: A descriptive review of current national regulations was conducted, together with technical aspects related to the collection, preparation, and application of autologous products used in regenerative medicine. The participation of the biochemist in extra-analytical stages and biochemical care associated with these procedures was also evaluated. Results. The preparation of platelet-rich plasma and other autologous biomaterials requires technically standardized procedures and trained personnel to ensure the quality and safety of the final product. In this context, the biochemist plays a central role both in sample preparation and in providing specialized counseling to patients and healthcare teams. The expansion of these practices has promoted the emergence of Regenerative Biochemistry as an emerging field within professional practice. Conclusions. The participation of the biochemist in regenerative medicine is essential to ensure the quality of procedures and to strengthen direct biochemical care for citizens. Regenerative Biochemistry is projected as an expanding field with growing scientific and professional relevance.
